PQ 2023: Performance Design and Space

The Prague Quadrennial takes place every four years in the Czech Republic in the city of Prague.  It is a space which "brings the best of design for performance, scenography, and theatre architecture to the front line of cultural activities to be experienced by professional and emerging artists as well as the general public (https://pq.cz/about-pq/)."  This year there were artists represented from all over the world presenting their designs in the physical space.

Our Home "An environmentally-conscious approach to material collection, by gathering and repurposing objects, asks the viewer to see design as an act of critical engagement with the world."
US exhibit design by Yoon Bae, Scott Bolman (CSUF professor of Lighting Design), Luke Cantarella, Anna Driftmier, Richard Hoover, Stan Mathabane, and Tanya Orellana.
Contributions from 28 design projects including work by Hyun Sook Kim (CSUF professor of Costume Design).

Gut City Punch by Théo Mercier & Céline Peychet
A site specific installation entirely sculpted in sand, that deals with the massive urbanization and the guts of our soils.

The Bridge by Adrian Damian
This space had a clear bridge that was suspended over water that had rain falling from the ceiling.  On the walls were projected images and the ceiling was made of mirrors so your felt immersed in the space.

but I am alive by Matija Ferlin & Maurico Ferlin.
Was a still life installation of a performance of the play Sad Sam Matthäus which is about two brothers entangled in art.

Each installation throughout the PQ uses innovative ideas to represent the artist's idea of art, how it affects the world around us, and how we tell our stories.  The mosts interesting part of the PQ is seeing how people from around the world choose to do this.  You can actually see art materialize.
